Oceanside Upstairs

Local Guide

South Oceanside beach access & surf spots.

Our upstairs suite sits four blocks from the sand on S Tremont Street. Here's how we send guests to the beach — where to walk down, where to paddle out, where to park when you drive, and where to warm up afterward.

Closest beach access points

  • Cassidy Street Beach Access

    ~7 min walk

The closest stairway down to the sand from the suite. Quiet, mostly locals, easy paddle-out on smaller days.

  • Wisconsin Avenue Beach Access

    ~10 min walk

Rinse showers and a small parking pocket. A good meeting spot if friends are driving in.

  • Oceanside Pier

~15 min walk or 5 min drive

Iconic wooden pier with Ruby's Diner at the end, longboard-friendly waves on the south side, and sunset views that never miss.

  • Buccaneer Beach Park

    ~12 min walk south

Grassy park, playground, snack shack, and a mellow beach break — the family pick.

Surf spots near the suite

Oceanside is a beach-break town — sandbars shift, so check the surf report the morning of. These are the reliable go-tos within a short walk or drive.

  • South Jetty / Harbor

    All levels

Sheltered A-frames when a west swell wraps in. Best on a mid-to-high tide with light offshore wind.

  • Wisconsin & Tyson

    Beginner–Intermediate

Consistent beach break peaks. Early mornings before the wind comes up are the move.

  • Oceanside Pier (South Side)

    Intermediate

Longer, sand-bottom rights and lefts. Watch the crowd and stay clear of the pilings.

  • Cassidy Street

    Intermediate–Advanced

Punchier peaks on a solid NW swell. Low-tide barrels are rare but real.

Tides, parking & a few honest tips

  • Dawn patrol wins. Wind picks up around 10–11am most days spring through fall.
  • Mid-tide is usually the sweet spot for the beach breaks; the pier handles a wider range.
  • Street parking on Tremont and Freeman is free but fills fast on summer weekends — walk if you can.
  • Rip currents show up after big swells. If you're new to the water, swim near a lifeguard tower (staffed daily in summer).
  • Board rentals: Asylum Surf and South Coast Surf Shop are both a short drive.

Where to warm up after

  • Revolution Roasters

3 min walk. Best flat white in South O.

  • Beach Break Café

Classic breakfast burrito after a dawn patrol.

  • Hello Betty Fish House

Rooftop views over the pier at sunset.

  • Petite Madeline Bakery

Croissants and quiche a short stroll away.
